Ancient Caddo Negative Resist Smoke technique for the writing and swirls.

 

This piece was created for the SPEAK exhibition about the preservation of Native Languages. It represents playful design of animals Native to the Caddo to help learn the Caddo, Hasinai, language with phrases written in Caddo, for example "Dawkinaha Hasinai: Speak Caddo!"

The title incites learning to count in Caddo and the piece shows animals of our tribe's rivers, piney woods, edge of the plains, and southeastern region, along with ancient negative resist method Caddo words naming the animals: Batah Kuhu (alligator fish), Nawtsi (bear), Bahdin (water turtle), and Do'ooh (rabbit).
